What To Expect
Every child and family is unique. Before beginning therapy, I take the time to understand your child’s strengths, developmental history and the experiences that have led you to seek support. This ensures that recommendations are tailored to your child’s individual needs and the goals that are most meaningful to your family.
-
We begin with a brief phone conversation to discuss your concerns, answer any questions you may have and determine whether my practice is the right fit for your family. If appropriate, we will arrange an initial parent consultation.
-
The first appointment is with parents or caregivers. During this session, we explore your child’s developmental history, strengths, interests and current challenges, as well as your family’s goals and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Together, we identify the areas that would make the greatest difference to your child’s participation and your family’s everyday life.
-
A comprehensive assessment is typically completed over three sessions, allowing me to gain a thorough understanding of your child’s development across different environments. Depending on your child’s needs, these sessions may take place in the clinic, at home, or within their early learning, kindergarten or school setting.
-
Following the assessment, we meet to discuss the findings, celebrate your child’s strengths and explore any factors that may be influencing their participation and development. I provide practical recommendations and work collaboratively with you to develop an individualised therapy plan that supports your child’s goals and your family’s priorities.
-
If ongoing therapy is recommended, sessions may occur weekly or fortnightly, depending on your child’s needs and family circumstances. Where appropriate, I may also recommend collaboration with, or referral to, other professionals including a paediatrician, speech pathologist, psychologist or physiotherapist to ensure your child receives coordinated, holistic care.
